Summer House Living Room Design

After a long winter, it's incredibly nice to be able to go to your summer house and "open" it for the season. One of the first considerations you may have is how your summer house living room should be designed. You're not looking for the same type of coziness that you have at home. You want something that's still conducive to family, but will encourage warm breezes and long walks on the beach, not long stays indoors.

Whether you will visit this home on weekends throughout the warm season, or if it will become a semi-permanent home, the living room is a space that's important to family and also important for entertaining. The living room is probably the second most used rooms of the house, the first being the kitchen, of course. This room will be where guests will be entertained and families will come together when they're not out playing on the beach.

A wonderfully freeing addition to a summer living room is the use of bead board on the walls. This adds to the cottage type atmosphere that you're looking to create. The walls should either be painted a stark white that would contrast nicely with the wood grains of the trim around the doorways and along the floors, or they should be painted a light color such as field green or sky blue. A summer house living room should give the feel of being outdoors even when stuck in the house on a rainy day. These colors will help create that look and feel within your living room.

Summer House Living Room Design

Another nice touch to this style living room is small knickknacks that have to do with the outdoors and beaches. Seashells are a wonderful choice of décor when creating the illusion of bringing the beach and ocean into your very own living room. Shells can be used to surround the bottom of candles on a glass tray. They can be bagged and displayed through their mesh bags on a shelf next to a framed picture of you and your family on the beach or outdoors together.

Sparse collections of greenery either real or fake will enhance the "outside on the beach" feel of this living room. If you take a few plants that may vary in size and place them in a few strategic places, they will do a great job of adding a little green to your summer living room. If you're thumb is no more green than your is your forefinger, then choose plants that require little care or choose fake plants. Like their real counterparts, fake trees and plants are available just about everywhere. Be on the lookout and grab one or two that will truly enhance your living room.

Living rooms can be wonderful locations within the home and summer home. When everyone is at home over the summer, bonding can truly take home in a room that was well thought about and decided upon. Create your very own living space in the summer room style because you never know when you could be getting a new room to decorate.

Treating Anxiety With Natural Herbs and Over the Counter Supplements

This article will discuss the symptoms associated with anxiety and some of the best all-natural remedies with anti-anxiety properties.

Every living person feels anxiety at one time or another. We all know what it's like to feel worry, nervousness, fear and that heart-pounding feeling in your gut like something awful might happen. Maybe you get caught in a little white lie, or a big project you were working on gets delayed and you know it is your fault. Or maybe you're walking down the street and an unleashed pit bull starts eyeing you. Anxiety in these situations is common and quickly fades when the problem is solved.

But for nearly 40 million Americans, anxiety is an everyday reality. People who suffer from regular anxiety and/or panic attacks experience symptoms so often that it interferes with their ability to enjoy everyday life. People in this situation have anxiety "triggered" by what, for many people, would seem minor stressors, or normal life occurrences. These could be things as simple as starting a conversation or thinking about the future.

Treating Anxiety With Natural Herbs and Over the Counter Supplements

While a person often realizes the excessive worry or fear is not completely rational, there is little he or she can do to relax. Symptoms often include:

Racing or pounding heart Trembling Sweaty palms Feelings of terror Chest pains or heaviness in the chest Dizziness and light-headedness Fear of dying Fear of going crazy Fear of losing control Feeling unable to catch one's breath Tingling in the hands, feet, legs, or arms

There are a number of treatment options for anxiety that include therapy, prescription drugs, exercise therapy and dietary supplements. With anxiety, treatment options are not a one-size-fits-all consideration.

For people with clinical disorders experiencing extremely severe symptoms that make everyday life a challenge, prescription medication coupled with therapy may be the best option. But most people who suffer from anxiety are not in that boat.

For most who suffer from anxiety, a combination of regular exercise and the right natural supplements can be effective enough to overcome most anxiety symptoms. Most commonly people feel anxiety when there is one or a few chemical imbalances in their body that lead them to have a strong stress response to normal, everyday occurrences. This imbalances can often be corrected with supplementation.

Two of the most important brain chemicals in preventing anxiety are Serotonin and GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid). Together, these neurotransmitters, or "chemical messengers" work to regulate mood, sleep cycle, muscle tension, concentration and relaxation. These are also two of the most commonly imbalanced brain chemicals that can lead to anxiety.

When these are out of balance, the body's ability to confidently handle life's stressors is greatly reduced. Luckily you can support these crucial brain chemicals with natural, over-the-counter supplements. No doctor's appointment necessary.

So then, what types natural anti-anxiety herbal extracts, vitamins, amino acids and nutrients can you buy over the counter? The following list contains some of the strongest and safest. Several of these also support Serotonin and GABA production.

L-Theanine
L-theanine, an amino acid found in green tea, produces a pronounced feeling of tranquility in as little as fifteen (15) minutes. L-theanine increases the activity of GABA, a neurotransmitter (i.e. natural messenger in the brain) that promotes relaxation and reduces anxiety. L-theanine also stimulates the release of dopamine, a neurotransmitter responsible for confidence and a sense of well-being.

GABA
Gama Aminobutyric-acid (GABA) is an amino acid and the main inhibitory (calming) neurotransmitter in the brain. GABA is a natural calming agent that prevents excessive muscle tension and helps our bodies make endorphins, chemicals that make us feel happy. Deficiencies of GABA in the brain have been linked to insomnia, and feeling anxious, stressed, tense and depressed.

Ashwaghanda Root
Ashwagandha has been used in the Indian tradition of Ayurveda in health tonics and calming serums. Recent studies demonstrate that Ashwagandha is an antioxidant that can treat anxiety, depression, panic attacks and phobia.

Brahmi (Bacopa Monnieri)
Often used by Ayurvedic healers to accompany Ashwagandha, Brahmi (a.k.a. Bacopa Monnieri) is a mild sedative which supports the body during periods of emotional stress. Traditionally, Brahmi is prescribed to promote healthy cognitive functions, including focus, concentration, mental endurance and memory. Modern studies have found that Brahmi's anti-anxiety properties were as potent as those of Lorazepam, with none of the side effects.

Tryptophan
Tryptophan is the number 1 supplement purchased to fight stress and anxiety. It is an essential amino acid that the body converts into 5-HTP (5-hydroxy-tryptophan), and then to serotonin. Serotonin is involved in mood, appetite, sleep and impulse control. Once the serotonin neurotransmitter is made, the brain is able to convert it at night into melatonin, the sleep-inducing hormone.

Passion Flower
For centuries, herbal medicine practitioners have used Passion Flower as a natural remedy for anxiety, stress and insomnia. Modern clinical studies shows that Passion Flower extract significantly lowers anxiety levels and promotes a more tranquil frame of mind. Studies also indicate that Passion Flower can reduce anxiety-related discomfort caused by withdrawal from opiates and other drugs.

Magnesium
Magnesium deficiency is one of the leading causes of anxiety and insomnia and the western diet tends to be lacking in this critical element. Research now shows that as magnesium levels drop, symptoms of anxiety and depression can increase.

Niacin
Niacin works with the body to convert Tryptophan into 5-HTP, which can then be converted into Serotonin. Without Niacin, Tryptophan-5HTP conversion cannot take place. Common symptoms of niacin deficiency include irritability, poor concentration, anxiety, fatigue, restlessness, apathy, and depression.

Vitamin B Complex
Getting enough of the many forms of Vitamin B is essential to maintaining proper brain function. Vitamin B is involved in the metabolism, as well as the production of Serotonin. Low levels of vitamin B have been linked to, anxiety, restlessness, fatigue, irritability, and emotional instability.

Al of these can be purchased at your average health food store. Currently there is only one supplement that contains all of these ingredients: Tranquilene. You can learn more about Tranquilene here: http://www.tranquilene.com/index2.php

Log Home Living - Problems and Benefits

Today you'll find that log homes are just as huge and beautiful as some of the traditional houses that are out there today. Many people desirea a secluded custom home of their dreams. However, many people are really not aware of all that comes with a homes made from logs. Although there are undoubtedly a variety of great benefits to log home living, you'll find that there are some problems that log home owners often encounter along the way as well. Whether you go with a large log home or a smaller log cabin, you'll find that there are both pros and cons.

Problems with Log Home living
While you probably just think about all the beauty and all the great benefits, before you decide that log home living is for you, it's important that you realize that there are some problems as well. Here are just a few of the problems that can occur when you are purchasing or building your own custom home from logs.

- Building is Dangerous - First of all, you'll find that actually building a log home is quite dangerous. Logs are extremely heavy and an accident with a log can take a limb or a life. So, this is a dangerous type of home construction and you need to realize this before you decide to build.

Log Home Living - Problems and Benefits

- Require Non-Cosmetic Upkeep - You'll also find that most of these properties require quite a bit of non-cosmetic upkeep that most other homes do not. While you may hear a lot about these homes being low maintenance, this is not always the case. Wood preservation solutions must be applied to the logs in many cases, which can take time and money.

- It Can Be Difficult to Get a Home mortgage Loan - It's quite a bit more difficult to get a home mortgage loan on a log home as well, which is something that you probably haven't thought about. These are not traditional homes and finding the right home loan can be a real pain. So, before you decide that this is the right choice for you, make sure you understand that this difficulty is a reality when it comes to financing.

- Possible Bug Problems - Because the entire home is made of wood, there is the possibility of bug problems in the future. A log home would be a termite delight if you don't keep up on your wood preservation and bug treatment.

Benefits of Log style Homes
Of course while there are quite a few problems that can come along with log home living, you'll also find that there are many great benefits to owning a log home as well. Here are just a few of the great benefits that you can enjoy.

- Great Look - First and foremost is their great look and curb appeal. Many people actually choose log style homes solely for the beautiful look that they have. There is something rustic yet stately about these large log homes and many people love the way they look. However, looks is not the only great benefit.

- Excellent for the Environment - You'll also find that log homes are great for the environment and if you are worried about conservation, this is definitely a great way to go. Trees are a renewable resource and this is what is used to build your log home. So, it's a great choice for those who want to make sure that they protect the environment.

- Sturdy and Durable - Log style home living also provides you with a cool home that is sturdy and durable as well. You'll have a property that is very sturdy that will hold up, even in bad weather. Also, you can be sure that these properties are going to last for a long time as well, which is another great benefit.

- Warm and Cozy - If you're longing for a home that is going to be warm and cozy, then log home living may be for you. Because the log homes are built so tightly, they are very energy efficient and they'll keep you warm all winter long and cool during the summers as well. You'll also save on the heating and cooling bills.

- High Building Standards are Used - The building standards that are used for log cabins are very high today. This means you get a quality home and it also means that you have great value in your home as well. Usually log homes appraise out much higher than traditional homes that are about the same exact size. So, you'll end up with more equity in your home and if you have to sell, you'll be able to make a nice profit too.

US Citizenship Options For Elderly Applicants - Medical & Exam Waivers

I frequently receive calls from the adult children of US permanent residents (i.e. green card holders) who want to know how their parent can become a US citizen if the parent cannot study for the English history test and / or does not speak English very well. I have created an article for you on the two most common scenarios that I answer weekly in my US Immigration Law Office of Lena Korial-Yonan, P.A.:

1. My mom is eligible for US citizenship because she has had the green card for 5 years, and she does not have extensive travel or any criminal issues. The problem is that she does not speak or read English and cannot study for the history test. Any solution?

USCIS has specific rules that relate to an applicant's age and how long they have had the green card that can exempt them from having to take the US English History test and also exempt them from passing the interview portion of the N-400 as well as the reading and writing exam. Please see the next question for more details on this.

US Citizenship Options For Elderly Applicants - Medical & Exam Waivers

However, here the applicant has had the green card for only 5 years and so the only solution is to see whether the applicant is eligible for a medical disability waiver. A medical disability waiver is completed by a US licensed general medical doctor, licensed clinical psychologist or other specific doctor on USCIS form N-648, Medical Certification for Disability Exemptions. The form must be completed a specific way and with specific wording / answers before USCIS will approve the medical waiver. The doctor, in order to complete the medical disability form, must give your parent, the N-400 applicant, a test to determine whether he or she can learn or remember basic things. This test can include having to recite basic information just explained to your parent and may also include basic exams having your parent place a circle object with circle object, etc.

Applicants with dementia or Alzheimer's, for example, are eligible to file form N-648, Medical Disability Waiver, which states that because of their mental limits, they cannot study for the US history test. A major limitation for eligibility under form N-648 is that the resulting mental disability cannot be a result of drug use.

Our immigration law office has successfully completed medical waivers prepared by licensed doctors of applicant's own choosing for the mental conditions of dementia, Alzheimer's and schizophrenia. Please note that these cases are being mentioned are examples and in no way guarantee that your case will have similar results for both the mental conditions listed and for the USCIS district that you will file citizenship with. Please contact an experienced immigration lawyer of your choosing for a detailed analysis of your own specific case.

Although our immigration law office does not have any doctor(s) that we recommend for completion of Form N-648, we will let you know if a particular type of doctor can complete the form on your behalf. We also review the Form N-648 for completeness, as USCIS is strict in the language that they require from the licensed medical doctor in order for the US citizenship applicant to be approved. If the Form N-648 is approved by the US Immigration Officer, then the US citizenship applicant does not have to take any test in order to have their form N-400 approved and be sworn-in.

Also, at least in the USCIS district office located in Jacksonville Fl, we usually file a copy of the Form N-648 with the N-400 application, and we bring the original N-648 with us to the N-400 interview. You may of course provide the original N-648 in your initial filing if you wish. Just be sure to keep a copy of the form N-648, as it is not uncommon for USCIS to require a few changes to the form N-648 before your case can be approved.

2. My mom is 65 years old and she has resided in the US as a green card holder for over 20 years. Does she still have to take the English test, etc.?

No, your mom has to take a modified version of the civics test in her language of choice. She does not have to take the reading or writing test. The N-400 interview, which includes reviewing the details of the N-400 and asking whether your mom has ever been arrested, files US taxes, etc. is completed with the help of the translator that your mom brings with her to the N-400 interview. She must bring her own translator with her to the N-400 interview so that the translator can translate the civics questions in your mom's best native language.

The age qualifications that exempt applicants from the English, reading and writing tests are as follows:

· 65 years and has resided in US as a green card holder for 20 years or more.
· 55 years old and has resided in the US as a green card holder for 15 years or more.
· 50 years old and has resided in the US as a green card holder for 20 years or more.

Again, Applicants that meet one of the above categories must only take the civics test in their language of choice.

I hope that the above provides some answers to the questions asked of me weekly in my immigration law office of Lena Korial-Yonan, PA. by the adult children of elderly parents who have had the green card for 5 years and now want to become US citizens.

Amazing Health Benefits of Cilantro - The Mega Benefits of Eating Fresh Cilantro

Recently I noticed I began to use cilantro at unprecedented levels in my cooking and had decided to look cilantro up on the web, even though I only recently started to cook and use it in my cooking and garden four years ago but never to the extent of my recent usage amounts. I wasn't going to search as to why I had been craving this herb, but what were its supposed effects, if any on our bodies. I was shocked to learn how great cilantro actually is for us and to our overall health.

It was only until now that I was curious what the herb was all about. And why the heck was I started to naturally crave this herb? I had to get to the bottom of this but promptly! I knew I had used it plenty of times in my 'Oh So Famous Salsa' recipe. But I needed to know what did cilantro do, if anything to us and our bodies. With the research I found, this article was created and I just had to share.

Who knew That Cilantro Was This Good!?!

Amazing Health Benefits of Cilantro - The Mega Benefits of Eating Fresh Cilantro

Want a cure all for viral and bacterial infections and more? Well read on...albeit maybe novel, the ability to use cilantro greatly increases our ability to clear up recurring infections, both viral and bacterial especially when eaten with omega-3 enriched foods such as nuts. But there are many other wonderful side effects of eating Cilantro. Who knew?

Why Fresh?

Although we all like to use fresh herbs if we can get them, it seems that there are more benefits than first thought, especially when us foodies started to first go all hog-wild on the "got-to-be-fresh-happy" with the use of non-dried herbs in our cooking. So many of us grew up with dried herbs, and for many more, dried herbs that would stay in our cupboards for years. I know I am not alone here. That by the time we reached (some sort of ) adulthood, we wished to cook no more "out-of-the-box", but back to the real deal, thankfully to food network stations everywhere telling us the importance of a dishes success depends on the use of the freshest of herbs.

This trend in "using fresh herbs as a must" is so true that McCormick, this past fall, placed out one page magazine advertisements in several magazines and even created a website to assist visitors in checking out just how old their herbs were in their cupboards. If you think I am kidding check and note if any of your spices from the McCormick's is from the Baltimore factory, if so, note that this bottle is over 15 years old! Yuck! I had four or five in my cabinets that were promptly tossed. Yeah I know, who knew!

Using Cilantro In Your Cooking

Cilantro has a mild peppery taste, flat leaves and is similar looking to flat-leafed parsley. It is a family member of the carrot family - and as you can tell from its looks, the tops of this wonderful herb resemble that of a carrot top.

Cilantro is great as an edible garnish. If you mince it and sprinkle any dish you have before you, literally, including your breakfast eggs, you will receive its curing and healing attributes of the cilantro herb.

But I have recently resurrected its' importance in being a main point in my daily diet. After a little research, I learned that cilantro seems to have some very interesting (and affordable) super health benefits and can be seen as a major cleaner of the body in ridding heavy metals such as mercury, lead and aluminum from one's body.

Yes, there's more people, cilantro is also a blood cleaner. And heck why not eat what you love and detox your body simultaneously?

It seems that for years there have been drugs available to help rid the body of the heavy metals called, 'Chelation therapy' [which] using chemical agents like EDTA has long been used to help remove heavy metals" but it seems as if cilantro is one of the affordable natural substances than can remove these metals naturally.

So what do you do to get this herb to assist in your healing?

Best eaten raw, but you knew that already! Some suggestions include using cilantro pesto (recipe below) over pasta, spread onto toasted Italian bread, a dollop over your cooked meat, etc. you get the idea here people! You can also add this peppery herb to cooking, from any and all rice dishes, and pastas to meat dishes.

This herb is also very affordable in fresh bunches at your grocery store. My local store has them at .00 for (2) two nice-sized bunches. A small handful (2 teaspoons minced) used in your salads every day for two to three weeks which is the recommended amount to have its curing properties work on your issues it seems, will have you feeling better than you have been in a long while.

Do wash your cilantro very well though. The best way is to fill a large bowl with cold water, and gently put the tops in tops down into the bowl. Stirring the end of the bunch of cilantro, swishing it around will help loosed any soil that may be on it. You can then shake dry and place it in a bad, much the same you would do wish washed lettuce.

Want To Grow Cilantro?

Cilantro is super easy to grow from seed, - which is the coriander seed - hey who knew?!? But be sure to cut your plant often like parsley, for constant fresh growth. Likes sun, and the cilantro is a simple herb that also helps to keep the bugs away. Another natural remedy! A great plant for kids to try as one of their first herbs due to its quick growing in the garden and low-maintenance gardening requirements. Cilantro also does fairly well in a extra sunny kitchen window.

A friend of mine has a great cilantro 'pesto' though his is very hot, there are many variations I see on the web. The main point it that you will increase your ability to heal yourself from viral and bacterial infections - especially re-occurring ones with adding 2-3 teaspoons of fresh cilantro with your diet every day for two to three weeks.

I have started this trend of uping the use of my cilantro amounts now for a week, and my head seems clear and my body feels great. Now I know why from this research. I will let you all know how fantastic I feel in two weeks on this.

Here's one recipe for Cilantro Pesto.

Cilantro Pesto

1 clove garlic

1 cup almonds, cashews, or other nuts

1 cup packed fresh cilantro leaves

2 tablespoons lemon juice

6 tablespoons olive oil

Put the cilantro and olive oil in blender and process until the cilantro is chopped. Add the rest of the ingredients and process to a lumpy paste. (You may need to add a touch of hot water and scrape the sides of the blender.) You can change the consistency by altering the amount of olive oil and lemon juice, but keep the 3:1 ratio of oil to juice. (It freezes well, so you can make several batches at once.)

Other Personal Cilantro Recipes I have created and use:

One Pot Cilantro Chicken and Rice

Hot Cilantro Pesto

Ingredients
2 bunches fresh cilantro1 head of garlic - yes a complete head1 cup fresh lemon juice (6-8 lemons)Cardamom - freshly ground2 or more Hot peppers, dried scotch bonnets or green chilies1/4-1/2 cup olive oilsalt to taste Directions

Directions Combine all ingredients except tortillas into a bowl and mix well.Add dressing and tortillas and mix lightly being careful not to breakup the tortillas too small.
Kick in the Pants Soup

Ingredients 14 oz. can chicken broth (I prefer organic, non-fat, low or no sodium)1 large tomato, seeded and diced4 oz. can chopped mild green chiles (do not drain)1/4 cup fresh cilantro1 to 2 tbsp fresh lime juice1/2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil3/4 tsp ground cumintortilla chips (optional)
Directions In a medium saucepan, bring broth to a boil over high heat.Stir in tomato and green chiles.Return to boil.Remove from the heat.Stir in remaining ingredients.Let stand, covered, for 5 minutes to allow the flavors to blend.Add tortilla chips to taste. (optional) There are many more interesting and delightful recipes out there on the web, these are just a few of course. Do get out there and check them out to try today!

Happy Healing Healthily in a Hurry!

As a side note though, there is one spice tin I keep simply for its name, shape of its tin and for the nostalgic purpose in reminding me of my mother's kitchen cabinets which had more spices than any neighbor and was more organized than any kitchen cabinet I knew of then. And yes, she was a great cook and known outside the family for her parties full of fantastic homemade food. And for these reasons why I probably write so much on food besides cooking up a storm any chance I get. But I am loving my cilantro but hard, an herb she never got to learn to try. I will make sure my friends and family do not have the same experience but instead learn and more importantly add this oh-so affordable herb to their everyday diet for better health!

Smart Buildings - Living Green in a Big Way

How to live green, find green materials, and go green.

Smart Buildings

In recent years we have heard more and more about how we need to live green, go green with the products we use, and of course build with green materials. In our series of Green Articles, you will read much about Smart Systems, or Integrated Systems in the "Intelligent" Buildings or "Smart" Buildings. What are they, and who is building them?

Smart Buildings - Living Green in a Big Way

Intelligent or Smart Buildings (referred to as SB's hereafter) are basically any building that has incorporated streamline operations which deliver better service to their end users. Many would call this a "Smart System". This system will help you live green in many ways.

A decade or two ago, you may have immediately thought of the Jetson's when confronted with the idea, that an elevator could sense you without even touching the button. Or that anyone could program their lights to turn on from down the street, or Internet service would be called Wi-Fi and be hard wired into your apartment building. Look how far we have come today.

One example of an SB is One American Plaza in San Diego, California. The Broadband infrastructure alone in this building affords free Wi-Fi, Tablet PCs and PDAs, to each tenant, and adds to a higher quality service.

Many building owners and developers want to live green, or go green, and they are located in North America and overseas. They are coming to the realization that to compete, they must change, and develop the SB's of the future too. They must use green materials in every step of the building process.

SB's are not built on the same design, construction, and operation process of the past either. The approach needed for the successful development of "intelligent buildings" requires innovative strategies and usually consist of a team of Developers and Architects to incorporate their ideas into reality.

While there is no actual definition for an Intelligent building, or Smart Building, they do have several things in common with each other.

They integrate distinct systems which can be controlled by a centralized common user interface such as a Computer. Every part of the building communications system is a shared network throughout the structure. The high-performance systems of these buildings require that the building owners, and/or property and facility management, are highly trained professionals who understand this technology. This benefits the end-users.

These buildings have a capacity built in, that will maximize its own performance and efficiency. This is accomplished by integrating all systems such as lighting, HVAC, safety, power management, security (access control, video surveillance, and visitor management), seismic and structural monitoring, environmental conditions, including temperature, air flow, and air chemistry and more into one centrally controlled system.

The technology is likened to a Central Nervous System incorporating building strategies set to calculate and then alter its own performance and functions. This has an added long-term sustainable value and overall efficiency and savings to the property.
